Moving... Out of Africa
Don't waste time thinking about what you could have done differently. Keep your eyes on the road ahead and do it differently
The inevitable questions that everyone asks when you have been travelling on arrival back home….
What was your favourite place/thing?
Meeting Paulina, the young girl I sponsored in Tanzania; climbing Mt Kilimanjaro; the comic relief from hippo watching; the embarrassed elephant urinating; wildebeest migration; lioness crouched ready to pounce on prey; sunsets from the accommodation; gentle giraffe; Sphinx, pyramids and all the hieroglyphics in the tombs; the mightiness of the Nile River; the happy, white teethed children, the donkey ride at sunrise; the non-materialist African people; and the beautiful innocence of the babies at the orphanage……in three little words I LOVED AFRICA (I found these notes written back in 2004, amongst photos that I chose to include in my newsletters. I had forgotten I had written them. But like re-writing my trip I would still agree and have the most wonderful memories)
How far did you travel? Approximately 8000 kilometres.
Would you do it again? In a heartbeat
Would you do anything differently? Naturally – I have learnt heaps but would only change those bits. But like the naked little African boys playing in the Indian Ocean, maybe my inexperience, naivety and having to be in the moment made everything so much more enjoyable and special.
Also, when I got home, there was a photo of the beautiful, smiling Paulina on her blue bike (they could not find a pink one) with her pink backpack arriving at school in style!
Have you been to Africa? I would love to hear what your favourite things are if you’ve been.
I know all the animals are amazing. What did you think of the people?
Thanks for your comment it's so nice to share ,based on experiences.
I loved in Africa. Camping in Chobe National Park, Botswana with no fence, and listening to the lions roar all night. Paddling in a dugout on the Okavango Delta, swimming in a waterhole while wild elephants wash in another one. Watching elephants, giraffes, Guinea fowl and every animal in between at waterholes in the Namibian desert in Etosha NP. Just special.
